Introducing Jean C. Seratti

loremOver thirty years ago, Jean acquired Granada Girl/El Camino Real, a local salon that quickly became a hub of community activity and information in Granada Hills. Through her business, she became deeply involved in local events, starting with the Granada Hills Holiday Parade and expanding to leadership roles in the Granada Hills Chamber of Commerce. As Chamber President in 1988, she led countless initiatives—beauty pageants, chili cookoffs, fireworks shows, golf classics, mixers, and more. Her civic engagement caught the attention of Councilman Hal Bernson, leading to her work on the Granada Hills Commercial Core Specific Plan (1987–1990), the Planning & Environment Citizens’ Advisory Council, and the Granada Hills Community Plan Revision Committee. Jean also worked with Assemblywoman Paula Boland, advocating for crime legislation in Sacramento, and later with Assemblyman Keith Richman and Councilman Greig Smith on community-focused projects.

loremJean’s dedication extended to healthcare as she co-chaired the 25th Anniversary of the Granada Hills Community Hospital and served as President of the Hospital’s Foundation from 1990 to 2003. She helped lead numerous fundraising events including galas, murder mystery dinners, road rallies, and the Granada 2000 Capital Campaign. A member of the Rotary Club since 1990, Jean championed causes like children’s support programs in Cambodia and a local high school scholarship program. Her community service also included four years on the Devonshire Area LAPD Community Police Advisory Board, Operation Sparkle cleanups, and a decade of support for the North Valley Family YMCA. Among her many honors, Jean was named Granada Hills Citizen of the Year, a Northridge “Lifesaver,” and the first recipient of LA Council District 12’s Pioneer Woman of the Year award. Even shortly before her passing on May 7, 2008, she remained focused on recognizing others’ contributions to the community.
