Rita's Tree
In 1983 upon the suggestion of local Granada Hills Business Owner Rita Ciccarelli who made request and campaign in regard of the 65 foot Canary Island Pine Tree located at the "township " Triangle intersection of Chatsworth Street and Zelzah Ave to become an annual Community Symbol of Holiday Season Spirit and Pride.
Rita Ciccarelli's civic suggestion was presented and enthusiastically approved by the Granada Hills Chamber of Commerce and one year later in December 1983 the Canary Island Pine Tree became the Official Community Christmas Tree of the Community of Granada Hills the " Valley's Most Neighborly Town "
Each Annual Holiday Season the decorated "Triangle " Lighted Tree is enjoyed by thousands of pedestrians and motorists and also became the impetus of the Granada Hills Rotary Club and Foundation in the beautification and creation of the Veterans Park in 2009.
In 2017 the Granada Hills Rotary Club honored Rita Ciccarelli for her decades earlier contribution of the Community Christmas Tree by naming it "Rita's Tree".
In December 2018 the family of Rita Ciccarelli wished to further honor Rita's contribution and memory by creating a related " Rita's Tree " Charitable Initiative by which donated Christmas Trees are given to In -Need families. This collective effort is sponsored by the Granada Hills Rotary Club and Foundation and the Family of Rita Ciccarelli and assisted in administration by the North Valley Y.M.C.A.
" Rita's Tree " can be enjoyed throughout the calendar year as the Magnificent Tree has been installed with a State of The Art computer-generated lighting system by which different holidays and related colors I.e. Valentine's Day, St Patrick's Day, 4th of July, and Halloween and more can be viewed throughout the year .
